Why Contribute to IDPAC?

Iowa dentists had big wins during the 2024 legislative session, including the first dental insurance reform bill passed in Iowa since 2010.  If we want to keep this momentum going, it is important we have a strong PAC behind us! IDPAC helps Iowa dentists get in front of legislators when we need to have tough conversations about our legislative priorities.

Testimonials

"Supporting the IDPAC is the way in which we know the voice of Iowa dentists will be heard. Particularly in the current COVID-world and the post-COVID world, it is imperative to support IDPAC as I am very concerned that forces outside of dentistry will take advantage of the current situation to promote alternative dental practice models/providers to the harm of our practices, as well as the safety of our patients."

-IDA Past President Dr. Nathan Hehr, Founder's Club contributor

“I have found that very few people in state government have any knowledge of modern dentistry and its value in a person’s health. I answer dental questions on an almost daily basis when the legislature is in session.

Having a dentist in the Iowa legislature presents the perfect opportunity to educate government officials and advance issues that are important to the dental profession. That is why I believe it is vital to have a dentist in the Iowa legislature.

During the shutdown of dental offices due to COVID-19, I had several phone calls with the Governor’s staff and explained how dentists would be willing and able to make the necessary precautions to help mitigate the spread of COVID and follow CDC guidelines. I believe these calls helped get dental offices open ahead of projected time."

-Iowa Representative Thomas Jeneary, DDS, on the importance of dentists being involved in state politics

Which Political Party Does IDPAC Support?

IDPAC is bipartisan and supports candidates, regardless of party, who will help advocate for dentists and dentistry in Iowa.

Who Does IDPAC Donate To?

IDPAC donates to candidates running for state-level offices in Iowa with a focus on incumbents. Contribution decisions are based on a number of factors, including:

  • History of public advocacy for dentistry
  • Voting record on issues important to dentists
  • Pro-dentistry stance on current issues related to the profession and patient care
  • Likelihood of election or reelection

All IDPAC donations stay in Iowa, and support Iowa candidates!

Who Decides Which Candidates Receive IDPAC Funding?

Contribution decisions are made by the IDPAC Board, working in conjunction with the Iowa Dental Association’s Executive Director and government relations team.

I Already Give to Political Candidates. Why Should I Support IDPAC?

While all political donations matter, giving to IDPAC amplifies your voice as a dentist. By bundling the donations of dentists from across the state, IDPAC stands out among the crowd. It’s a way to demonstrate our commitment to dentistry’s causes to both candidates and outside interest groups. PACs make a statement.

Why Do Iowa’s Dentists Need a PAC?

  • Large state and national corporations—including insurance companies and their associations— have lobbyists at the Iowa Statehouse. These groups have vast resources, deep pockets, and an interest in cutting costs, slashing dental benefits, and otherwise getting between dentists and their patients. IDPAC defends your interests as a healthcare provider and the interests of your patients.
  • By participating in IDPAC, you have the opportunity to send a message about dentistry’s key role in the health of Iowans, while supporting leaders who offer innovative solutions.
