2024-2025 IDA Board of Trustees

The IDA Board of Trustees consists of one trustee from each of the 10 component district societies, the New Dentist Committee Chair , along with the President, President-Elect, and the Vice President. In addition, the Immediate Past President serves as an advisory member of the Board.

Meet the members of the 2024-2025 IDA Board of Trustees:

President


Dr. Christopher Bogue
Dr. Bogue is a general dentist in Carroll. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and has been in practice for 22 years. Dr. Bogue is a recipient of the Fulfilling Iowa’s Need for Dentists (FIND) Award and the 2008 IDA New Dentist of the Year Award.  He has volunteered at the Iowa Mission of Mercy every year since it began in 2008. In addition to his involvement with IDA and the Fort Dodge District, he is a member of the Spear Study Club and Great Lakes Study Club, and a CEREC Doctors Mentor.

President-Elect


Dr. Ryan Hajek
Dr. Hajek is a practicing pediatric dentist in Council Bluffs. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry and completed his residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Children's Hospital. His honors include being a Fulfilling Iowa's Need for Dentists (FIND) award recipient and receiving the IDA New Dentist of the Year Award in 2016, as well as previously serving as the president of the Southwest District Dental Society. 

Vice President



Dr. Shawn Hedlund

Dr. Hedlund is a general dentist, practicing at Melrose Dental Office in Iowa City. Born and raised in Iowa City, Dr. Hedlund graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1991. Following graduation, he did a year-long General Practice Residency at the University of Minnesota. In 1992, Dr. Hedlund joined his father in practice in Iowa City. He has served in every office in the University District, including President from 2002-2003. He was the University District IDPAC Representative for 18 years. Dr. Hedlund received the IDA New Dentist of the Year award in 1999. He is the University District Dental Society Treasure and served on the IDA Board as the University District Trustee from 2014-2022. Dr. Hedlund is married and has two grown children. When he's not in the office, Dr. Hedlund is on the golf course or spending time with his new grandson.

Dr. James Larsen
Dr. Larsen is a practicing dentist in Davenport. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and has been in practice for 38 years. Dr. Larsen was the 2014 recipient of the IDA President’s Award.

Dr. Carolyn Larsen
Dr. Larsen is a Graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Dr. Larsen has served as the Davenport District Dental Society Trustee to the Iowa Dental Association since 2019, after serving as the Davenport District’s President. She practices Dentistry at Innovative Dentistry and Park View Dental, as a dental partner and co-owner. She is has been admitted as a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Dentists (ICD USA Section), and the American College of Dentists (ACD).

Dr. Larsen currently serves on the Iowa Dental Foundation Board of Directors, representing the Iowa Dental Association, and has participated in the IMOM in the past. She currently serves as an alternate Delegate for the Iowa Dental Association at the ADA House of Delegates. She has been an adjunct Professor at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Dr. Larsen is passionate about Dentistry. The proud mother of three grown children (and their spouses), Dr. Larsen’s interests include spending time with her family and friends, swimming and travel.

Des Moines District Trustee  


Dr. Kevin Baker
Dr. Baker is a practicing dentist in Des Moines. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine Dentistry, completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, and has been in practice for 2010. Dr. Baker is a Des Moines District Dental Society Past President, IDA Program Committee Co-Chair, and  Chair of the 2022 IMOM Local Planning Committee. He stays active with outdoor activities and enjoys live music.

Dubuque District Trustee  


Dr. Joseph Zuccaro
Dr. Zuccaro was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended Loras College and The University of Iowa College of Dentistry, graduating in 1991. Dr. Zuccaro practices in downtown Dubuque, and continues to maintain and improve his dental expertise through continuing education courses and informational seminars. He has been active in organized dentistry, serving as the Dubuque County president twice and Dubuque District president twice. He's also a life member of the IDA. Dr. Zuccaro got married in 1993 and has 3 children. In his free time he enjoys exercising, golfing, boating, traveling, listening to live music, and skiing. 

Fort Dodge District Trustee  


Dr. Shaun O'Neill
Born in southern Wisconsin, Dr. Shaun O’Neill has spent the last decade in Iowa attending Luther College and the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He was recognized with numerous awards from the college, university, and the American Student Dental Association for his leadership and clinical skills. Dr. O’Neill was the Iowa American Student Dental Association’s president and trustee of the American Student Dental Association. In that role, he created the first annual IASDA Pre-Dental Summer Academy. He presented to the Board of Regents on behalf of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry to emphasize the importance of the college in Iowa.

His leadership has continued after dental school as Dr. O’Neill served on the National Advisory Board for the Professional Protector Plan and was recently elected Vice-President of the Fort Dodge District Dental Society. He volunteers and helps run the free dental clinic in Spirit Lake located at the hospital. Dr. O’Neill’s leadership was recently recognized by the American College of Dentists as he has been inducted as a fellow. Less than 3% of dentists nationwide are inducted as it recognizes dentists for exemplifying excellence through outstanding leadership and contributions to dentistry and society.

North Central District Trustee 


Dr. Scott Wilson
 Dr. Wilson is a practicing dentist in Forest City. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and has been in practice for 27 years.  

Northwest District Trustee 


Dr. Ammon Anderson
Dr. Anderson grew up in Logan, Utah. He completed his dental and Endodontic training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Anderson practiced General Dentistry from 2005-2007 before entering Endodontic residency. He enjoys spending time with his wife ShaRee and 5 children. His free time is spent doing Scouts, baseball, traveling and watching movies. 

Southeast District Trustee


Dr. Nathan Heubner
Dr. Heubner is a practicing dentist in Burlington. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and has been in practice for 16 years. His honors include receiving the Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry and the IDA New Dentist of the Year Award in 2015. 

Southwest District Trustee


Dr. Teddy Schaefer
Dr. Schaefer is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. He completed his OMFS residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. He is a partner of Oral Surgery Associates and practices primarily in the Council Bluffs, IA location.

University District Trustee


Dr. Scott Anderson
Dr. Anderson was born in Waterloo and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended The University of Iowa and completed his degree in business. After working for Aegon for six years, he decided to go back to school and later attended The University of Iowa College of Dentistry, graduating in 2010. Dr. Anderson practices in Tama and enjoys expanding his dental experiences by attending several continuing education courses every year. He has been active in organized dentistry, serving several years on the University District Dental Society. Dr. Anderson and his wife have 4 children. In his free time, he is often found on the sidelines of his kids' soccer, swimming, tennis, or baseball games. If he isn't on a sideline on a weekend, you'll likely see him supporting his daughter's dance performances.

 

Waterloo District Trustee


Dr. Mike Stufflebeam


Dr. Stufflebeam is a Board Certified pediatric dentist practicing in Marshalltown. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and has been in practice for 20 years.

New Dentist Committee Chair


Dr. Alyssa Darling
Dr. Darling graduated from Boston University School of Dental Medicine and did a one-year GPR residency at Rhode Island Hospital's Division of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, affiliated with Brown University. She is a public health dentist who currently works at Riverhills Community Health Center in Ottumwa, and serves as an adjunct faculty member for the The University of Iowa College of Dentistry students during their externship rotations. She is co-chair for the IDA New Dentist Committee, a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, National Network for Oral Health Access, Oral Health Iowa Coalition, and American Academy of Women Dentists.
