All those who test positive via a
COVID-19 viral test should
isolate themselves. When healthcare workers, including dentists and dental professionals, may return to work is dependent upon their symptoms or results from additional testing.
Criteria for symptom-based:
- At least 10 days have passed since the date their first positive viral diagnostic test was taken.
- At least 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms, AND
- At least 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND
- Symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath) have improved.
- At least 10 days and up to 20 days have passed since onset of symptoms, AND
- At least 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND
- Symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath) have improved.
- Consider consultation with infection control experts.
Criteria for test-based:
Asymptomatic: Negative results from at least two consecutive tests collected at least 24 hours apart. Please note these must be
NAATs tests read by FDA-authorized laboratory-based. At-home antigen tests will not satisfy this criterion.
Symptomatic:
- Resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND
- Improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath), AND
- Negative results from at least two consecutive tests collected at least 24 hours apart. Please note these must be NAATs tests read by FDA-authorized laboratory-based. At-home antigen tests will not satisfy this criterion.
Those using the test-based criteria should self-monitor for symptoms and seek guidance from their healthcare provider if symptoms recur or worsen.
