Welcome to the Iowa Dental Association

The Iowa Dental Association (IDA) is the premier professional association representing dentists in the state of Iowa. In existence since 1863, the IDA is home to over 1,800 Iowa dentists, which represents approximately 80% of the licensed dentists in the state.  

All IDA member dentists are not only members of the IDA, but also the American Dental Association (ADA) and their local district society.

IDA’s mission is to encourage the improvement of the health of the public, to promote the art and science of dentistry, and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public which it serves.  

Des Moines District Hosts Legislators at Annual Legislative Dinner

Last week the Des Moines District Dental Society hosted legislators from the Des Moines area for the 11th Annual Dinner for Central Iowa Legislators, Dentists, and Dental Specialists. The evening was an excellent opportunity for IDA members to speak with legislators about the challenges and issues they and their patients face daily.

Dr. Kevin Baker (Des Moines), IMOM 2022 Local Chair, presented a recap of last year's clinic in Des Moines including a short video and demographic information on those served. He emphasized that IMOM highlights the importance of access to dental care. 
 
In total, the dinner hosted 13 dentists and their guests and eight legislators, including: 
  • Senator Claire Celsi; West Des Moines, SD16 
  • Senator Herman Quirmbach; Ames, SD25
  • Senator Sarah Trone Garriott; West Des Moines, SD14  
  • Senator Brad Zaun; Urbandale, SD22 
  • Representative Eddie Andrews; Johnston, HD43 
  • Representative John Forbes, Urbandale, HD44 
  • Representative Mary Maddison, West Des Moines, HD31 
  • Representative David Young, West Des Moines, HD28 

Thank you to all of the IDA member dentists who attended the dinner! Meeting with legislators is a critical component of the advocacy work the IDA does. Much of our advocacy work is done through dentists who serve as key contacts and meet with their local legislators. Become a key contact for one of your state legislators today!
