Welcome to the Iowa Dental Association

The Iowa Dental Association (IDA) is the premier professional association representing dentists in the state of Iowa. In existence since 1863, the IDA is home to over 1,800 Iowa dentists, which represents approximately 80% of the licensed dentists in the state.

All IDA member dentists are not only members of the IDA, but also the American Dental Association (ADA) and their local district society.

IDA’s mission is to encourage the improvement of the health of the public, to promote the art and science of dentistry, and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public which it serves.

IDB Provides Update on CPR & CE

The Iowa Dental Board (IDB) released an update last week on CPR and continuing education requirements for the upcoming 2022 and 2023 renewal cycles for dentists and staff. As a reminder, if your CPR certification expires in 2021, you may complete an online-only course to recertify. If your CPR expires in 2022 or beyond, the hands-on component is required, but may be completed virtually with a manikin or dummy with instructor supervision online.
For the 2022 renewal cycle for dentists, 30 CE hours must be completed between September 1, 2020, and August 31, 2022, and the self-study limit has been increased to 18 hours. Self-study is defined as coursework completed without instructor supervision, such as on-demand courses, correspondence work or research, and other internet-based coursework. Interactive live webinars via Zoom or other video conferencing methods with an instructor present and attendees participating in real-time are not considered self-study.
For 2023, dental hygienists must complete 30 CE hours between September 1, 2021, and August 31, 2023. Dental assistants must complete 20 CE hours during the same time period. Self-study is limited to 12 hours.
