Welcome to the Iowa Dental Association

The Iowa Dental Association (IDA) is the premier professional association representing dentists in the state of Iowa. In existence since 1863, the IDA is home to over 1,800 Iowa dentists, which represents approximately 80% of the licensed dentists in the state.

All IDA member dentists are not only members of the IDA, but also the American Dental Association (ADA) and their local district society.

IDA’s mission is to encourage the improvement of the health of the public, to promote the art and science of dentistry, and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public which it serves.

Advocacy for Distinct Medicare Dental Benefit Continues

IDA joined the ADA and other state dental associations in a letter to leaders in Congress, advocating against the current proposal including the Medicare dental benefit in Part B, generally for services by a physician. As proposed, the dental benefit would include all seniors regardless of income with little distinction between the needs of physicians and dentists, as well as their patients. The ADA is asking for the creation of a distinct, separate program within Medicare to provide dental care to low-income seniors who need it most while taking into consideration the unique needs of dental offices.
Congress needs to hear from YOU as to why the proposed Medicare Part B structure will not meet the needs of dentists and their patients. Please take action today and voice concerns to your Congressional representative and emphasize the importance of a comprehensive Medicare dental benefit for those most in need. The ADA and IDA will continue to provide updates on this issue. The ADA has a recorded webinar and FAQ available for members highlighting key information about a Medicare expansion to include a dental benefit. The Texas Dental Association has shared an infographic with IDA highlighting key concerns about Medicare Part B for your reference.
