Reopening Recommendations and Guidelines

The Dental Office Reopening Task Force believes that many of the published documents and information published by the ADA, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and other organizations are beneficial resources for dentists as they reopen their offices during the COVID-19 pandemic. The task force offers the following recommendations:

  • Abide by the Governor’s proclamation and IDB guidelines. Dental offices must abide by the Governor's proclamation and the guidelines adopted by the Iowa Dental Board for dental offices reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Use Professional Judgement. Once practice restrictions have been lifted for dental offices, dentists should use their professional judgement to determine if the appropriate processes and equipment are in place to safely begin seeing patients.
  • Utilize the ADA Return to Work Interim Guidance Toolkit. The toolkit includes recommendations regarding essential areas of workflow within the office.

There are many variables to consider when reopening and the tabs below contain information to assist offices with different aspects of reopening. Information will be added to this page and published in the weekly IDA Today e-newsletter as it becomes available. If you are not receiving the IDA Today e-newsletter or have questions regarding information on this page, please contact the IDA staff.

The IDA does not endorse or recommend the following products, but makes them available for dental professionals as a resource to consider. It is your responsibility to confirm the products you order comply with existing requirements and recommendations.
