Changes to Medicaid Dental Wellness Benefit Proposed

The Iowa Department of Human Services recently issued a public notice regarding changes to dental benefits provided under the Iowa Medicaid State Plan and via the Iowa Dental Wellness Plan (DWP) effective July 1, 2018.
The Iowa Department of Human Services recently issued a public notice regarding changes to dental benefits provided under the Iowa Medicaid State Plan and via the Iowa Dental Wellness Plan (DWP) effective July 1, 2018.

Included in these proposed changes is a dental benefit maximum for each enrollee of $1,000 per state fiscal year (July 1-June 30). The $1,000 limit will not apply to preventive, diagnostic, emergency, anesthesia, and fabrication of dentures. Replacement dentures will be limited to one every 5 years per enrollee with the possibility of obtaining prior authorization for medical necessity replacement dentures prior to expiration of the 5-year period.
